Golf Waterproof Frequently Asked Questions
What are the best golf waterproofs?
Golf waterproofs, whether you’re opting for a full golf waterproof suit or a singular item like a pair of trousers, they are designed to keep you dry and comfortable on the course. They need to be waterproof (of course) and breathable, with enough forgiveness to allow movement. Importantly, there are two stipulations: waterproof, which means entirely water-tight, and rainproof, which is resistant to showers but not as reliably so to heavy rainfall as a full waterproof. However, rainproof does still give you more protection than your average golf jacket, so which weatherproofing you go for depends on how steadfast of a golfer you are, come rain or shine!
Do you wear trousers under golf waterproofs?
This is entirely your choice. Some golfers’ personal preference is to just wear waterproof trousers with no base layer. Others like to wear their waterproof golf trousers over the top of their base layer, and many pairs of trousers allow for this with their elasticated waist. On days when the weather can’t make up its mind, it may be best to wear regular golf trousers underneath your waterproofs, so you can always remove and replace the waterproof layer as you need.
Why do golf jackets have no hoods?
Many golf jackets don’t have hoods because they obscure your peripheral vision and can therefore hamper your shot. They don’t allow for freedom of movement for your head when lining up a shot and could even inhibit your swing from your shoulders and chest. This is why many players opt for golf caps, because they shield your eyes from the sun and the rain whilst still allowing full perception of the course.
